Anwar tells schools, varsities: Zero tolerance for bullying, arrogance

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim addressed schools and universities, emphasizing the importance of showing zero tolerance towards bullying behavior. He stated that such actions could jeopardize the nation's future and urged students who bully others due to their perceived superiority or circumstances to be held accountable.

Anwar stressed that academic success alone is insufficient to build a civilized society, highlighting the need for values, character, and respect for others. He advocated for the integration of new knowledge, including information technology and artificial intelligence, while preserving "adab" (good manners) and ethical conduct.

The prime minister warned that students who bully, belittle, or humiliate others could develop into future leaders, potentially ruining the country. He urged teachers and lecturers to enforce strict measures against such behavior, acknowledging that isolated incidents should not define an entire institution, but should not be dismissed either.

Anwar emphasized the importance of the spirit of independence, which includes freedom of thought and rejection of prejudice based on race, skin color, culture, or religion.
