Adobe Is Making Photoshop More AI-Powered Than Ever

Adobe has introduced an AI-focused update to Photoshop, featuring a new interface called AI Assisted Editor. The interface, currently in beta, caters to users who prefer natural-language commands and simplified controls over Photoshop's traditional editing workflow. The AI Assisted Editor incorporates multiple generative AI tools, including Prompt to Edit, Remove Background, Generative Expand, Remove Tool, Generative Fill, Generative Upscale, and AI Markup.

Prompt to Edit empowers users to describe changes using common language. The AI generates the alterations as separate layers, preserving the original image and enabling further modifications. Users who favor the regular Photoshop interface can continue to use the existing Pro Editor. AI Markup, another key feature, allows users to draw directly onto an image to convey their desired edits, such as selecting an area for a different color, indicating where an object should move, or sketching a new shape.

Adobe has also enhanced Instruct Edit with Masks, utilizing its Firefly Image 5 model. This upgrade enables Photoshop to better understand the overall context of the image, reducing the need for precise selections. Users can now request Photoshop to adjust elements like closing someone's eyes or adding a hat to a specific individual, while other areas remain unaffected.

Furthermore, Photoshop now offers a non-destructive Light Adjustment Layer, enabling users to control exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, and blacks without disrupting the conventional Photoshop layer workflow.

In addition, Adobe is integrating over 900 million assets from Adobe Stock directly into Photoshop through a new dockable Stock panel. The AI Assisted Editor remains an optional feature, meaning Adobe is not replacing Photoshop's professional interface. Users can now opt for traditional editing tools, AI-driven workflows, or a blend of both.
