4 PFF grades that stood out from Lions' win vs. Commanders

The Detroit Lions secured their first preseason win on Saturday, defeating the Washington Commanders 17-13. Several standout performances were delivered by the Lions' defense. The team limited Washington to a mere 35 rushing yards on 17 attempts. The defense also managed to generate two sacks and six quarterback hits during the contest.

On the offensive side, second-year guard Tate Ratledge demonstrated encouraging signs for the Lions' restructured offensive line. Moving on to individual player performances:

1. Cornerback D.J. Reed received a 77.7 overall defensive grade. He managed to allow only one reception for six yards and contributed with four tackles and two tackles for loss over 15 coverage snaps. Reed's efficient performance suggests a promising outlook for the Lions' secondary.

2. Right guard Tate Ratledge had arguably the most impressive offensive performance of the game. The second-year lineman didn't allow any quarterback pressure, hit, or sack, registering a 72.0 PFF run-block grade. Ratledge's performance hints at his potential to become a stabilizing force on the Lions' offensive line.

3. Edge defensive player Derrick Moore made a strong debut with a 70.9 overall defensive grade. Moore recorded two pressures, including a strip-sack fumble of Commanders quarterback Sam Hartman, leading to a 73.7 pass rushing grade from PFF. Moore's performance suggests he could become a valuable defensive difference-maker for the Lions.

4. Linebacker Erick Hunter delivered an 87.0 overall defensive grade and a 71.9 special teams grade in limited defensive action. As an undrafted rookie from Morgan State, Hunter's development during camp has made him one of Detroit's most intriguing roster-bubble players. Hunter's recovery of a fourth-quarter fumble on a kickoff coverage could bolster his chances of making the 53-man roster or at least getting a practice squad spot.
