3 killed in paint ingredient factory fire in Cheonan

A devastating fire and explosion erupted at a paint ingredient factory in Cheonan, South Korea on Friday, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives and injury to two others, officials have reported. The incident occurred at 11:44 a.m. at the raw materials production plant of Daewon Sanup, a company known for manufacturing fatty acids used in various industries such as tire and paint production.

Firefighters responded to the scene and discovered the body of a 70-year-old worker near the fire, while two Philippine nationals were found inside the factory. Among the injured, a 30-year-old Indonesian national sustained burns, and a firefighter was also injured in the hand after being struck by a falling object.

Initially, 21 people were present at the site when the explosion and fire broke out, with 17 of them successfully evacuated. The explosion is believed to have taken place in a factory building housing a substantial quantity of flammable materials, as per the officials' statements.

In order to ascertain the precise cause of the incident, police and fire authorities are set to conduct a collaborative forensic examination. The Labor Minister, Kim Young-hoon, has ordered the formation of a 15-member investigative team to diligently investigate the causes of the accident and carry out a comprehensive inquiry. He expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased workers and pledged unwavering efforts to prevent any further casualties.
