22-Year-Old Man Abducted Over Friendship Dispute, Rescued After Wife Shares Live Location; Six Arrested In Navi Mumbai

On August 23, a 22-year-old man named Zakir Sheikh was allegedly abducted and brutally assaulted in Navi Mumbai after a dispute over his friendship with a woman, according to prosecutors. The Koparkhairane police rescued the victim within a few hours after his wife shared his live location with the authorities, reported the news source.

Zakir, a resident of Kamothe, was reportedly abducted after a woman friend called him and asked him to meet her at Kharghar railway station, claiming her mother had thrown her out of the house. Zakir, who was on his way to Kharghar on his motorcycle, was followed by a group of men, including Rohit Hinukle, Yash Madhavi, and their associates, in a Toyota Glanza.

The accused allegedly forced Zakir into the vehicle and took him to Prajakta Society in Sector 4, Koparkhairane, where he was allegedly questioned, abused, and assaulted. He was subsequently driven to a flat in Bhoomipark building in Sector 19A, Ulwe, where Kiran Hinukle, Vinodkumar Nair, Shrihari Pillai, Amalraj Muwari, and their associates allegedly assaulted him with sticks and demanded Rs 11 lakh for his release.

The accused allegedly threatened to kill Zakir if the money was not paid. Zakir managed to send his wife his live location through his mobile phone, which led to his rescue by the police. The Koparkhairane police arrested six persons in connection with the incident, and further investigation is underway to establish the motive and roles of those involved.

The police have launched a search for three absconding accused persons and have seized two Mahindra Thar vehicles linked to the crime.
