Zoomlion intensifies disinfection, disinfestation exercise across Ahafo Region

Zoomlion Ghana Limited, in partnership with Ahafo Region's Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), has ramped up its disinfection and disinfestation efforts to enhance environmental sanitation and safeguard public health. The initiative targets public facilities and other designated areas, such as markets, schools, public toilets, refuse container sites, dumpsites, and other communal spaces.

Noble Nude, the Ahafo Regional Manager of Zoomlion, reported significant progress during the exercise, emphasizing the cooperative spirit displayed by local authorities. "The exercise has been quite successful, and the response has been encouraging," he expressed. In Hwidiem, Asutifi South District, District Environmental Health Officer Yaw Adusei welcomed the intervention, highlighting that several public areas in the district had benefited from the initiative.

Despite the district not being severely impacted by recent floods, the officer cautioned that poor waste management and unsanitary practices could heighten the risk of contagious diseases like cholera and typhoid. He urged residents to dispose of waste responsibly and avoid actions that could obstruct drains and exacerbate flooding, especially during the rainy season.

Adusei commended Zoomlion for supporting the intervention and pledged the assembly to intensify public education on proper waste management.

At Kenyasi, in Asutifi North District, Zoomlion's Asutifi North District Manager, Patrick Tetteh, encouraged residents to keep their surroundings clean and dispose of refuse only at designated collection points. Tetteh cautioned against dumping waste into gutters, warning that such practices could block drains, cause flooding, and provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes, thereby elevating the risk of malaria.

Dennis Addae, the Ahafo Regional Human Resources Officer of Zoomlion, emphasized the company's dedication to promoting clean, safe, and healthy communities. He urged residents to complement the company's efforts by adopting responsible waste disposal habits and maintaining good sanitation practices to preserve the progress achieved through the exercise.

This joint endeavor underscores the vital role of collaboration among local authorities, sanitation service providers, and communities in mitigating environmental health risks and enhancing sanitation across the Ahafo Region.
