Zanetor to resign from Pan-African Parliament role if…

Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Environment, Science and Technology Minister-designate, has stated that she will resign from her role as Second Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament if accepted for the ministerial appointment. She made this announcement during her vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings' response came in answer to a question posed by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin concerning whether she had already resigned from the continental parliamentary body prior to her proposed appointment. She clarified that she will be required to return to the Pan-African Parliament to formally submit her resignation after receiving parliamentary approval for the ministerial position.

The committee chairman, Bernard Ahiafor, further elaborated that the resignation would be contingent upon her approval as the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology. Dr Agyeman-Rawlings was elected as the Second Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament in April 2026, receiving 131 votes out of the total votes cast.

She has been a member of Ghana's delegation to the Pan-African Parliament since July 2025. The Pan-African Parliament, a body of the African Union, is responsible for promoting African integration, cooperation, and democratic governance across member states. The Parliament's leadership comprises the President and four Vice-Presidents, who are responsible for overseeing and guiding the operations of the continental legislature.
