The celebrated performer breathed her last on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following a distinguished career that spanned more than five decades across Ghana's theatre, television, and film sectors. Nortey had turned 89 on February 1, 2026, and made a noteworthy public appearance during her birthday celebration.

She gained immense popularity during the peak of Ghanaian television and theatre, starring in iconic productions like Obra, Osofo Dadzie, Key Soap Concert Party, Cantata, and Thursday Theatre. Her filmography also boasts notable roles in Nana Akoto, Matters of the Heart, Ties That Bind, Sinking Sands, Amakye, and Dede, as well as in the internationally acclaimed film Beasts of No Nation.
