Two mechanics, including PwD, charged over reckless riding in Second Link illegal race

KULAI, August 27 — Two individuals, one a Person with Disabilities and the other a 26-year-old man, appeared in the Magistrate's Court today regarding reckless and dangerous riding on the Second Link Expressway near Gelang Patah. The accused, Muhammad Aiman Izzuddin Sukri, 25, and Mohamad Riduan Abd Ghani, 26, denied the charges read out to them by Magistrate R. Salini.

Both were charged with reckless riding and endangering other road users while riding a Yamaha motorcycle at 7 am on August 22. The offence, under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a fine of RM15,000, and a driving licence disqualification upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Lee Weng Hong represented the prosecution, while counsel R.S.

Amarpreet Singh and Abd Rahim Ali represented the accused. In the bail application for Mohamad Riduan, his counsel cited his role as a supporting husband and ailing father, requesting a reduced bail amount due to his monthly income of RM1,500 as a mechanic. Similarly, Muhammad Aiman's counsel requested a lower bail amount, citing his status as a Person with Disabilities and a monthly income of RM1,700 from his mechanic job.

Salini granted both defendants bail of RM5,000 each, with one surety required. The trial is scheduled for October 5. In total, 11 suspects were arrested in connection with the incident; two appeared in court today, while the remaining nine were released on police bail, including those who allegedly blocked the road for the illegal race.
