The Wall Street Journal and Politico reported on the incident, though details of their conversations remain limited. The CIA chief visited Moscow on Tuesday. Politico noted that Ratcliffe primarily cautioned Russia about a potential escalation, particularly in regards to NATO partners in the Baltic region.

Additionally, he urged the Kremlin to reduce military and financial support for Iran. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskow confirmed to Russian news agencies that Ratcliffe had arrived in Moscow for "service-to-service" talks, but denied that a meeting with CIA Director Ratcliffe had taken place. For Ratcliffe, this was likely his first visit as CIA Director to Moscow, as the last known CIA Director to visit Russia was William Burns in 2021, who also met with President Putin.
