Thane Government Schools To Get Fourfold Rise In Funds For Infrastructure And Technology Upgrade

Thane's Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a fourfold increase in funding for public schools in the district on Monday, August 24. The move comes as part of a pre-cabinet review meeting with education officials. Currently, 20% of the Thane District Planning funds will be allocated specifically for school repairs, beautification, and the incorporation of modern educational technology.

This is a substantial increase from the previous 5% allocation. Both Zilla Parishad and Thane Municipal Corporation schools, operating in urban and rural areas, will benefit from the decision. The funding aims to address concerns over outdated infrastructure and inadequate amenities, which have led many parents to choose private institutions over government ones.

Shinde stressed the importance of a modern learning environment, urging both administrative bodies to create a detailed action plan. The policy move is also a response to pressure from civic activists and political groups, including Abhijit Dipke of the Janata Party, who recently criticized the government over the NEET paper leak issue and warned of potential further unrest.
