Technician claims trial to posting offensive pig farming video

A 29-year-old technician, Norfirdaus Abdul Rahman, faced a courtroom appearance in Sepang sessions court today, pleading not guilty to posting an offensive eight-minute video about pig farming on TikTok. The charge was read to him by judge Ahmad Fuad Othman before he entered his plea. Norfirdaus is accused of transmitting the video, which he allegedly uploaded at 4am on January 12, through his TikTok account, nowad.acc4.

The offense is deemed to have been committed under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which punishes content designed to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass. Conviction could result in a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both. Additionally, Norfirdaus would face a further fine of RM5,000 for each day the offense is repeated.

Initially, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission prosecuting officer Azmir Razali requested a bail amount of RM10,000 with one surety. However, Norfirdaus' legal counsel, Azi Azlin Zulkifli, argued for a lower bail amount, citing his client's financial need to support his parents. The accused works as a technician at a factory in Banting, earning RM3,000, and his income is required to support his ailing parents.

Consequently, the court granted Norfirdaus bail of RM6,000 with one surety and set a re-mention date of October 7.
