T.N. Minister launches GIS mapping project in Cuddalore
Housing and Urban Development Minister B. Rajkumar inaugurated the Geographic Information System (GIS) database project in Cuddalore on Wednesday. The initiative aims to map municipal assets across all 45 wards of the Cuddalore Corporation at an estimated cost of ₹26.40 lakh. The database will cover properties, parks, water bodies, water connections, stormwater drains, and components of the new underground sewerage scheme.
By utilizing LIDAR, drone imagery, and Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) technology, the project seeks to identify under-assessed properties, encroachments, and unlicensed commercial establishments. The survey will also aid in flood mitigation and drainage planning.
Accompanied by Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, Rajkumar also launched desilting of small and major canals within the Corporation's jurisdiction, improving flood preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season. Additionally, the Minister inaugurated several completed projects, including the Animal Birth Control Centre at Pachaiyankuppam (costing ₹65 lakh), a children's library in Sorakalpattu, and a material recovery facility at Devanampattinam (costing ₹42.50 lakh).
Furthermore, Rajkumar flagged off seven new buses and bus services operated by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation.
