Sony finally has a cheaper OLED to compete with midrange Samsung and LG TVs

Samsung made a splash at Gamescom 2023 by unveiling a lineup of innovative Odyssey OLED gaming monitors. The highlight was the Odyssey OLED G6 G60H, which boasts a 1440p Fast IPS panel with an unprecedented 1100Hz refresh rate, making it the fastest display of its kind. This screen also supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro VRR and Nvidia G-Sync compatibility for smooth gameplay.

For larger enthusiasts, Samsung introduced the Odyssey OLED G7, marking the world's first 42-inch curved gaming monitor in a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. This 4K OLED panel comes with a 165Hz refresh rate and an aggressive 1000R curvature, providing an immersive viewing experience. Samsung claims the G7 is 72% larger than their usual 32-inch curved panels, filling a significant portion of the user's field of vision.

The G8 model stands out with its unique features, including a 32-inch 4K tandem OLED with a 360Hz refresh rate. This monitor utilizes Samsung's fifth-generation QD-OLED panel with Penta Tandem technology and an RGB stripe sub-pixel layout for enhanced power efficiency, longevity, and sharper text. The G8 offers a versatile display mode, allowing users to choose from 4K/360Hz, 1440p with a 520Hz refresh rate, or Full HD at an impressive 680Hz.

In terms of connectivity, the G8 is equipped with DP 2.1 UHBR20, two HDMI 2.1 ports, a USB-C with up to 98W of power delivery, and a USB hub with two downstream ports and KVM support.

Samsung also reaffirmed its commitment to glasses-free 3D technology, with enhanced support for popular titles and HDR10+ gaming in several major releases, including the upcoming Call of Duty and over 20 games by the first half of 2027.
