Son defending father pushed 78-year-old man in fatal incident, gets jail

A man who intervened to stop his elderly father from being attacked by another man has been sentenced to nine months in jail. The 37-year-old, whose name was not released, pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing grievous hurt to the 78-year-old victim. The incident occurred on May 25, 2024, in Singapore, when the victim approached the father from behind and struck him with an umbrella.

The father, who had a history of altercations with the victim, suffered a fractured skull and remained in a coma for several days before his death. The victim's father had received previous warnings from the police for his aggressive behavior. The prosecution had sought a 10 to 12-month sentence, citing the victim's weakened state, while the defense argued for a maximum of eight months, emphasizing that the father's actions were intended to protect his father.
