SIR hearings begin in Telangana, four persons from the draft rolls rejected at ERO level during verification

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearings have commenced in Telangana, with four individuals initially rejected at the ERO level during verification. Two of these rejections occurred in Malkajgiri constituency, while the other two were in Nagarkurnool, according to data provided by the Chief Electoral Officer on Thursday, August 27.

As of the report, more than 2,200 hearings have been held, and 106 electors have been verified. Following the completion of the Enumeration Phase on August 10 and the publication of Draft Electoral Rolls, the notice phase and the period for handling claims and objections began on August 17 and will persist until October 15, which is four days prior to the publication of the final rolls.

The draft rolls were released with a total of 2,64,87,213 electors, out of which 92,87,577 were identified for the issuance of notices. Among these, 32,36,659 electors were found to be unmapped, meaning they did not provide their details from the SIR 2002 rolls in their enumeration forms. The remaining 60,50,918 voters faced anomalies or logical discrepancies, with the majority being primarily name and age mismatches when compared to the previous SIR.

Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy mentioned that the individuals whose forms have been rejected will have the chance to appeal. The initial appeal can be lodged with the District Election Officer concerned within 15 days of rejection, followed by a second appeal to the CEO within 30 days of the second rejection. While hearings related to the notices have not yet commenced in several locations, they have already begun in about a third of the 119 constituencies.

To date, a total of 92,10,218 notices have been issued concerning electors who were scheduled for hearings with Electoral Registration Officers or Assistant Electoral Registration Officers. However, the actual number of notices delivered to the electors remains a small fraction at 8,84,462. The CEO has set daily targets for the EROs and AEROs to ensure the process is completed on time, with a daily target of 2,32,204 notices per day, which requires 40 days for completion.
