Selena Gomez is defending herself against allegations that she defrauded investors of nearly $1.2 million by not adequately backing a mental health platform she co-founded, called Wondermind. The five investors claim they were promised that Gomez, a renowned celebrity with a massive social media following, would actively manage the company as its head of marketing.

However, Gomez's legal team, led by Matthew Rosengart, argues that the claims against her are "threadbare" and that she never agreed to or managed the company. The pushback from Gomez may be an attempt to protect her reputation, but it also places her mother in the position of being accused of fraud alongside the company itself and a third co-founder.
