Search underway for 1,300 missing after deadly Nepal-Tibet floods

A massive flood and landslide disaster claimed at least 165 lives and left over 1,300 people missing along the Nepal-Tibet border on Wednesday. Surveillance video captured a wall of mud and debris engulfing a multi-story building, while buses and cars were swept away as people desperately ran for safety. The cause of the disaster, believed to be a glacial collapse, resulted in a tsunami-like surge of water and mud that struck villages and towns along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers.

Nepali police have recovered 162 bodies, with another 823 people still missing, including 579 Nepali and foreign tourists. Chinese state media reported three deaths and 558 missing, with 260 foreigners unaccounted for. Nepal's Prime Minister visited the affected area to assess the situation, while the Nepali Army and Chinese authorities mobilized rescue teams and resources.

Tourism officials said 47 people from a group, including two children, were missing. The disaster impacted seven Nepali districts, with the death toll expected to rise as search efforts continue.
