Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, the former CEO of 1MDB, expressed confidence in the upcoming joint venture (JV) worth USD2.5 billion between businessman Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low, and PetroSaudi International Ltd (PSI). This communication, which took place between 2009 and 2010, led Shahrol to believe that the JV would indeed occur.

However, he admitted that he did not take any further action based on this information or possess any evidence confirming the actual occurrence of the JV. When asked by Shafee Abdullah, representing former Prime Minister Najib Razak, whether Shahrol agreed that Amhari was among the individuals receiving money from Jho Low, Shahrol stated that he had no knowledge of this matter.

Both Shafee and Shahrol agreed that the information regarding the JV came from Low Taek Jho, and Shahrol accepted it as true. The case against 1MDB and its subsidiaries, including 1MDB Energy Holdings Limited, 1MDB Energy Limited, 1MDB Energy (Langat) Limited, and Global Diversified Investment Company Limited (formerly known as 1MDB Global Investments Limited), was filed on May 7, 2021.

They named Najib, former 1MDB financial officer Terrence Geh Choh Heng, former executive casey Tang Keng Chee, former legal advisor Jasmine Loo Ai Swan, Vincent Beng, former chief financial officer Radhi Mohamad, Kelvin Tan, and former investment officer Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil as defendants. In a recent development, 1MDB agreed to drop the civil lawsuit against Radhi without the option to re-file it.

The lawsuit also dropped Jasmine from the list of defendants. The lawsuit, alleging breach of trust, statutory violation, misuse of authority, and conspiracy to defraud 1MDB, continues before Assistant Public Prosecutor Mohamad Redzuan Idrus.
