Sandu Calls on Free World to Strengthen Ukraine’s Air Defense Ahead of Winter

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has urged nations worldwide to enhance Ukraine's air defenses in anticipation of the winter months, asserting that Russia's ongoing conflict extends security concerns beyond Ukraine's territorial boundaries, as reported by UATV English. During a joint press conference alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Romanian President Nicușor Dan in Chisinau on August 27, Sandu underscored the repeated breaches of Moldovan and Romanian airspace perpetrated by Russian attacks against Ukraine.

She urged the global community to assist Ukraine in bolstering its air defense capabilities ahead of the winter season. Sandu noted that Russian drones had breached Moldovan airspace shortly before the nation's Independence Day, emphasizing that such acts were designed to instill fear in the region. She reiterated her country's commitment to investing in air defense measures to safeguard its citizens and infrastructure.

Sandu also commended the bravery of Ukrainian military personnel and highlighted that the ramifications of the war extend well beyond Ukraine's borders. She stressed that Moldova aims to enhance security collaboration with Ukraine and Romania, viewing peace, freedom, and democracy as shared values. "We aspire to be a security ally.

That is our objective," Sandu stated. Her comments followed Moldova's commemoration of its 35th anniversary of independence, with Zelenskyy and Dan participating in the festivities in Chisinau.
