Russia threatens British military targets over weapons supplies to Ukraine

Ukraine has revealed that Russia employed its upgraded Iskander-1000 missile in an attack on Kyiv during the summer. The Iskander-1000, an enhanced version of the 9M723-1 missile, boasts a larger engine and a longer range, expanding its reach by approximately 100 miles. This development underscores Russia's continuous efforts to bolster and refine its ballistic missile arsenal.

Ukrainian officials have noted the growing significance of these weapons in Russia's assault campaign. The usage of the Iskander-1000 represents a significant stride in Russian ballistic missile technology, presenting a more formidable challenge to Ukraine's air defenses, such as the US-made Patriot system. Despite its advanced capabilities, the Patriot has encountered difficulties in consistently intercepting recent Russian ballistic missiles, attributed to strategic improvements made by Moscow.

Additionally, Ukraine is facing a shortage of interceptor missiles, with certain nights seeing no intercepts at all. Recent military assistance from North Korea has further augmented Russia's arsenal, with the Ukrainian Air Force reporting the utilization of the KN-23 missile, a derivative of the Iskander, in two strikes. This situation highlights the escalating intensity and sophistication of Russia's ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine.
