‘Rising Transport Costs Push Businesses Towards Smarter Delivery Models’

Nigeria’s rising transport costs are putting fresh pressure on businesses that depend on frequent deliveries, forcing merchants to look beyond traditional delivery models for ways to control fulfillment costs, ChamsAccess,

The financial strain of rising transport costs is pushing Nigerian businesses towards more efficient delivery models, according to ChamsAccess, a Nigerian technology firm. As the cost of daily public transport climbs, merchants are exploring alternative delivery methods to manage fulfillment expenses. Figures from the National Bureau of Statistics reveal a 38.63 percent increase in bus fares to N1,431.25 in May 2026, compared to N1,032.46 the previous year.

Similarly, Okada taxis (motorcycle taxis) saw a 52.45 percent rise in fares to N1,072.51. These surges exacerbate the already tough operating conditions for small businesses, especially online retailers who manage individual deliveries. To tackle the issue, ChamsAccess has launched MarketRide, a digital commerce and delivery platform meant to unify consumers, merchants, and riders.

MarketRide Go, within this system, utilizes a multi-order delivery approach, allowing riders to manage multiple orders in the same area during a single trip. This strategy aims to lessen redundant mileage and fuel usage while offering riders opportunities to increase earnings per trip. MarketRide also features GPS tracking, OTP-based delivery verification, rider training, branded equipment, and prompt payment settlement.

Olayemi Odufeso, ChamsAccess CEO, explained that they created MarketRide to bridge the gap between ambitious entrepreneurs and consumers keen on digital shopping. This initiative is not solely for Lagos but for every urban area where inefficient logistics is impeding economic growth.
