Restoran Berjaya, a beloved Bangsar eatery that has served traditional dishes like 'nasi padang', curry 'mee', and 'wantan mee' for 45 years, is set to close its doors on August 30. The restaurant, which was originally a food stall at a corner coffee shop in Lucky Garden, moved to its current location in 2023 after being in its previous spot for around three years.

The late Choo Wai Mun and his wife, Madam Ho, started the business, and their two daughters have been running it since Choo's passing. Madeleine Choo handles the cooking, while Madam Ho oversees the preparation of Nasi Padang dishes.

The restaurant's signature dish, 'dendeng', consists of pounded beef coated in a secret sauce made of oil, chilies, and onions, which is then deep-fried until it forms an aromatic crust. Another popular item is 'bergedil', a fluffy mashed potato filling. The restaurant is now staffed with just two people instead of eight due to difficulties in securing workers. Madam Ho, now 76, decided to retire following the announcement, stating that she has been working since she was 29.

Devoted customers, mostly multi-generational families, have been visiting the restaurant to say their farewells and enjoy their favourite dishes one last time. Many have been regulars for decades, with some families even growing up eating the food at Restoran Berjaya. The restaurant remains packed with locals and a few occasional visitors, ensuring a nostalgic dining experience for all.
