Raksha Bandhan 2026: When is Shubh muhurat to tie Rakhi? Check timings for Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and other cities

Raksha Bandhan, a festival celebrating the bond between siblings, is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravana. This year, the Shubh muhurat for tying the sacred thread, known as rakhi, is scheduled from 5:57 AM to 9:48 AM on August 28, 2026. The Purnima Tithi begins at 9:08 AM on August 27 and ends at 9:48 AM on August 28.

In addition to biological siblings, rakhis are also exchanged among cousins, friends, and neighbors, emphasizing the festival's role in promoting social harmony and mutual respect. In Jharkhand, thousands of villagers plan to tie rakhis to nearly one lakh trees across 700 villages as part of a conservation initiative tied to Raksha Bandhan.

The 'Save Tree' campaign, organized by conservationists, aims to strengthen the connection between people and nature by tying rakhis to trees, symbolizing the pledge to protect the environment. This event, first launched in 2004 in Lukaiya village, has since expanded to cover over 12,000 villages across Jharkhand, contributing to the livelihoods of villagers through the conservation of Mahua trees and other minor forest produce.
