Racing Bulls Facing Tough Driver Decision With Three Options for Two Seats

Racing Bulls is grappling with a crucial decision at the end of the 2026 season, as they have three drivers vying for only two spots in the 2027 driver lineup. At present, the team's two Racing Bulls seats are occupied by seasoned veteran Liam Lawson and promising rookie Arvid Lindblad. Lawson, an experienced F1 driver, made a strong impression during his debut race with Red Bull.

Lindblad, meanwhile, is viewed as a highly touted junior talent in the Red Bull program. While Lawson has outperformed Lindblad this season, the difference is marginal, with both drivers demonstrating their skills. Dutch Grand Prix will take place at Circuit Zandvoort on August 21, 2026 in Zandvoort, Netherlands. Furthermore, F2 driver Nikola Tsolov is currently leading the junior series championship and is poised to join Red Bull's prestigious program.

However, Tsolov faces an uphill battle to displace either Lawson or Lindblad. Peter Bayer, the CEO of Racing Bulls, emphasized that the team sees this situation as a fortunate one, stating that both Lawson and Tsolov are performing exceptionally well. Bayer explained, “Both Arvid and Liam are doing an excellent job. Liam is currently ninth in the drivers’ championship and has proven his speed in both qualifying and races.

Nikola is also excelling in Formula 2.” The ultimate decision regarding the 2027 driver lineup rests with team principal Alan Permane. Bayer confirmed, “The decision for next year’s driver lineup is ultimately up to [team principal] Alan Permane. He will make the choice that best serves the team.” Unless one of Lindblad or Lawson experiences a significant drop in performance, it is likely that both will retain their positions, with Tsolov serving as the reserve driver for the 2027 season, potentially earning a seat in 2028 or beyond.
