Pune Municipal Corporation Approves Three-Year Parking Contract For Mahatma Phule Mandai With Payment Condition

Pune's municipal body has greenlit a three-year contract for operating the Mahatma Phule Mandai parking facility. However, the agreement carries a stipulation that it can be terminated if the operator falls behind on payments for more than a month. Corporators Vishal Dhanwade and Dada Kodre tabled the proposal. It permits a private firm to manage and oversee the parking in Mandai for three years.

Fellow corporator Arvind Shinde tabled a supplementary motion urging the city administration to take tougher measures against operators who miss payment deadlines. He suggested the contract be revoked if the bill remains unpaid beyond a month. The municipal council approved the main proposal along with this condition. The move follows complaints about the upkeep of city parking lots and allegations that some contractors have been extorting money from motorists.

The broader issue of parking policy was not deliberated upon during the meeting. Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar hinted that the matter should be addressed separately to allow for a more comprehensive discussion. The new condition aims to ensure payment punctuality from contractors and grant the civic body the right to end the contract if the operator defaults on its financial commitments.
