Police suspend concrete mixer truck operations in Accra and Tema for 3 days

The Ghana Police Service has announced a three-day suspension of operations for concrete mixer trucks in Accra and Tema, effective from Friday, 28 August, to Sunday, 30 August 2026. This decision came after concerns over concrete spillages, road safety, and damage to road infrastructure were raised during a meeting between police and truck operators.

The National Security Secretariat facilitated the gathering, led by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno. Concerns included the spillage of concrete and other materials from trucks, which can obstruct traffic, pose hazards for motorists, and damage road surfaces. Operators were urged to ensure no discharge of concrete or materials onto public roads during transportation and operations.

As part of the solution, concrete mixer truck operators received a notice prohibiting their use on roads within Accra and Tema from Friday to Sunday. The temporary restriction aims to allow authorities to clean and clear affected road surfaces. Vehicles found operating during the suspension period will face enforcement action in line with the law.

The engagement was part of the police's efforts to improve compliance with road traffic regulations and address issues related to heavy commercial vehicles on Ghana's roads.
