Police smash five scam call centres in Selangor, arrest 40 in crackdown

Selangor police have dismantled five scam call centres and arrested 40 people suspected of targeting victims across Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The arrests, carried out by the Selangor Commercial Crime Investigation Department, took place between August 18 and 25 and resulted in the seizure of computers, laptops, mobile phones, modems, routers, passports and cash worth a combined RM165,000.

The suspects, including three Malaysians, 32 foreign men and five foreign women, are believed to have worked as customer service operators for scam syndicates. Police are urging the public to report suspicious activities to help prevent further criminal operations.

In a separate development, 11 individuals suspected of being linked to two secret society groups were arrested following a deadly fight in Taman Alam Megah on August 25. One man died in the incident, and five suspects have been remanded for seven days. The remaining six are expected to be brought before a court for remand applications.

Preliminary investigations suggest the violence may have been linked to a territorial dispute between the two groups. Police are still investigating the motive and identifying the groups' leaders. Three individuals were injured in the fight, with three still receiving hospital treatment. Police had previously arrested a man in connection with a separate group fight in Jalan Mandolin 33/5, Taman Alam Megah, resulting in one death. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
