Police rescue Kwara monarch, two others, kill kidnapper

Kwara State Police Command has successfully rescued the Onigbesi of Igbesi, Oba Moses Omotayo, along with two other kidnapped individuals, following a kidnapping incident in the Igbesi community of Isin Local Government Area. The monarch and the two other victims were abducted on August 22, 2026. The rescue operation was carried out in response to a report received by the Oro Police Station around 10am on Thursday.

Upon the police's swift action, a confrontation ensued with the suspected kidnappers, resulting in one of them being neutralized and the remaining members fleeing. The rescued victims, Maryam Abubakar and Aisha Ilyasu, were subsequently evacuated to a hospital for medical checks. The Kwara State Police Force praised the intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration, and rapid response that led to the rescue.

The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, emphasized that there would be no sanctuary for kidnappers and violent criminals in the state, urging the public to provide timely and reliable information to the security agencies.
