Police Chief Brags That His Officers Have Been Using Electro-Shock Gloves for Years

When police officers in Sahuarita, Arizona admitted to using electro-shock gloves to subdue two students in the 2025-2026 school year, the community was rightfully outraged. The incident was revealed after the Guardian and 404 Media reported that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement had placed a massive order for shock gloves, bringing the controversial devices to the national spotlight. However, a police chief in the town of Sahuarita, John Noland, is unapologetic about the use of these devices.

In a recent interview with the right-wing publication The Daily Wire, Noland boasted that his officers had been using the electro-shock gloves for roughly two years. He claimed that his force was the first in Arizona to incorporate them into their street and patrol work. Noland stated that the gloves had been successful in subduing suspects, and he dismissed concerns about their inhumane nature.

In fact, he agreed with a United Nations special rapporteur on torture, who labeled the devices as "inherently cruel, inhuman or degrading."

Noland argued that the gloves were a crucial tool for law enforcement agencies struggling to control unruly individuals, particularly those encountered by Border Patrol, ICE, and other federal agents out in the field. He claimed that the devices reduced the struggle to comply with authorities.

However, legal rights analysts have criticized the chief's attitude, arguing that it reduces every citizen to an unruly criminal who simply needs to 'comply.' This perspective disregards the fact that these gloves are already being abused by overzealous cops, as evidenced by a 2025 incident in Kentucky. There, a man was killed after being subjected to 27 shocks with a GLOVE and 13 jabs from a taser, ultimately leading to cardiac arrest.

Given the history of police misconduct in Sahuarita, it may only be a matter of time before the city experiences its own tragic death at the hands of the electro-shock gloves.
