Please stop flooding our projects with AI slop to furnish your CV

Open source contributions are valuable, but recent trends show an increasing number of AI-generated contributions. On platforms like GitHub, contributors' activities are highlighted, attracting potential employers and recruiters. However, the pattern of contributions has shifted in recent times. There is a noticeable rise in pull requests instead of issues, and when issues are received, they are often accompanied by AI-generated analyses.

Security vulnerability reports have also seen a surge, frequently coming with AI-generated fix proposals. While some contributions may originate from genuinely interested individuals, there is a concern that many contributions are being generated by AI to game the system and boost one's profile. For instance, a contributor with virtually no history on the project was able to raise multiple PRs fixing minor spelling and grammar mistakes.

This pattern suggests that people might be using AI to create an illusion of interest and effort. Additionally, recent security vulnerability reports have been found to be AI-generated, leading to a more selective approach in handling such reports. Open source relies on trust, and the true value lies in making a project better, not in accumulating PRs or CVEs.

If one wishes to contribute, it should be out of genuine care and interest, not as a means to gain recognition or green squares.
