Over 50 Malaysians uncontactable after Nepal floods kill over 160

More than 50 Malaysians remain unreachable by their families following catastrophic floods in Nepal that have claimed over 160 lives and left hundreds missing, including foreign nationals. The Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu is working to locate the uncontactable Malaysians, with embassy chargé d’affaires Mohd Firdaus Azman stating they are still gathering information on missing individuals.

Road access to affected areas has been hampered by flooding along the Bhote Koshi River, while Nepalese authorities have deployed helicopters for search and rescue operations. The embassy is coordinating with Nepalese authorities to identify Malaysians who may have been caught in the disaster, hampered by damaged communications infrastructure.

Malaysians seeking to locate relatives or friends in Nepal are advised to send their passport and travel details to the embassy. At least 142 Indians were among the reported missing foreigners. The floods, caused by a massive snow and ice collapse, destroyed villages, bridges, and energy projects, severely impacting rescue efforts.

The disaster has heightened concern among Malaysian families as the embassy and authorities race to establish the whereabouts of those still missing.
