Over 400 structures destroyed, hundreds rendered homeless after fire destroys properties in Asawase Apagyahene area

A fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Asawase in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region, destroying approximately 300 wooden structures. The blaze displaced several families and caused extensive property damage, though no casualties were reported. One affected resident recounted waking up to the alarm of burning structures and running out to safety before firefighters arrived. Another provision store owner lamented the destruction of recently purchased goods worth GH¢60,000. Firefighters faced challenges accessing the area due to blocked routes, but managed to control the fire by 7:12 a.m. No injuries were reported, and residents expressed gratitude for the lack of fatalities.
