Ogun govt charges youths to embrace dialogue over disruption, shun election violence

The Ogun State Government has urged young people in the region to embrace dialogue over disruption as the 2027 election cycle approaches, according to the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi. Speaking at a 2026 International Youth Day event in Abeokuta, Talabi emphasized that dialogue is more productive than disruption and that youths should take responsibility for maintaining peace and order during elections.

He applauded the current leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, for demonstrating maturity and rare leadership qualities, expressing confidence that youths would avoid political bigotry during the elections. Talabi stressed that the government is incorporating youths into efforts to maintain law and order to prevent violence, stating that building the youth is essential for nation-building.

The state's first-ever Youth Policy Document and the inauguration of 2,360 ward executives were also highlighted as successes. NYCN state chairman Akolawole Shoremi urged youths not to be used as political tools and emphasized the importance of having a Permanent Voter Card and participating in the electoral process.
