New JMSDF Recruits Complete Five-Month Course

A total of 348 new recruits who joined the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in April successfully completed their five-month basic training in Maizuru on August 28. The graduates were divided into 235 candidates for general petty officer positions and 113 trainees, aged between 18 and 30. With this number, the intake was approximately 1.5 times higher than the usual yearly intake.

Throughout April and until the end of August, the recruits resided together at the training center, where they learned essential service principles in the Maritime Self-Defense Force. This included studying relevant laws and working on their physical fitness. During the graduation ceremony, Maizuru District Commandant Masafumi Nishiwaki congratulated the graduates, expressing his encouragement for their sincere dedication to studies and training.

Following the ceremony, the new personnel were escorted by instructors and family members as they left Maizuru to begin their service in various units across Japan.
