Nepal: Video captures moment raging flash flood engulfs entire village

Residents of a Nepalese village scrambled for higher ground as a massive flash flood, captured in video footage, swept through their settlement, engulfing homes, vehicles and infrastructure in seconds. The torrent of mud and water claimed 157 lives, with over 400 people, including around 340 foreigners, still missing. The disaster was caused by an ice-and-rock landslide triggering a debris-laden flood in the Lhende River, about 20 kilometers northeast of the Rasuwagadhi border crossing.

Rescue efforts were hindered by damaged roads, disrupted communications, and challenging weather conditions, making it difficult for helicopters to reach the worst-hit areas in Rasuwa district.
