Nepal flood death toll climbs to 359 as around 1,000 remain missing

Devastating floods on the Nepal-Tibet border have resulted in at least 359 fatalities, with around 1,000 people still unaccounted for, according to Nepali authorities. Chinese state media had initially reported "major casualties" from a mudslide at a Tibet border hub, with three deaths, bringing the total known deaths to over 362.

Surveillance footage from the Chinese side of the frontier captures a massive wall of mud and debris crashing over a multi-story building, engulfing it as terrified residents flee for their lives. The surge was caused by a glacial collapse that sent a torrent of debris gushing along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers. The disaster has affected villages and towns along the rivers, with Nepal's death toll initially at 273, leaving 823 people missing, including 579 Nepali and foreign tourists.
