Nepal flash floods: SDRF on high alert in Uttarakhand's border district of Champawat

Following severe floods in Nepal on August 26, 2026, the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) in Uttarakhand's border district of Champawat has been placed on high alert. The Tanakpur post of the SDRF has been instructed to remain vigilant and monitor vulnerable riverbank areas, including the Sharda Ghat and Sharda Barrage. Local officials have urged residents to stay away from riverbanks, as the river's water level poses a potential risk.

The SDRF team has been actively patrolling vulnerable areas and coordinating with the local administration to ensure the safety of residents and travelers. They have also visited the Sharda Ghat and low-lying regions to warn people about the potential rise in water levels. The SDRF maintains a state-of-readiness with life-saving and rescue equipment, prepared to initiate immediate relief and rescue operations if necessary.

The Uttarakhand government has issued helpline numbers for stranded individuals in both Nepal and Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the loss of life and property, extending his sympathies to the affected families in Nepal.
