Nepal Flash Floods: India Sends 10 Tonnes Of Humanitarian Aid As Death Toll Hits 157, Nearly 400 Remain Missing

Kathmandu: Amid catastrophic flash floods, India has delivered 10 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Nepal following a devastating disaster. The Embassy of India in Nepal announced the support, emphasising its solidarity with the Himalayan nation. Ambassador Naveen Srivastava handed over the aid to Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Khadka Raj Poudel, who pledged India's commitment to providing all possible assistance.

The disaster struck Nepal's Bhotekoshi River region, triggered by an avalanche blocking the Lhende tributary of the Bhotekoshi, sending a surge downstream. At least 157 people have been confirmed dead, while nearly 400 remain missing, including foreign nationals and security personnel. Hundreds of people, including 391 foreigners and 44 security personnel, are also missing, as reported by Nepal's Prime Minister's Office.

Infrastructure across three districts was severely damaged, with nine hydropower projects, nine commercial bank branches, 19 motorable bridges, and approximately 40 kilometres of highway swept away. Prime Minister Modi spoke with Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah, conveying condolences and expressing India's readiness to provide all possible humanitarian assistance. Indian teams are coordinating closely with Nepal in rescue and relief efforts.
