Nashik: SIR First Phase Completed, Focus Now On Draft Electoral Rolls And Objections

The first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Nashik has been successfully completed within the set timeline, including the extended deadline. The next steps involve publishing the draft electoral roll, managing objections, and conducting hearings in a transparent manner, according to Chief Electoral Officer S Chokkalingam.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring accurate information regarding absent, migrated, deceased, and duplicate voters. During a review meeting at the Divisional Commissioner’s Office, Chokkalingam directed officials to meticulously handle the upcoming stages of the SIR process. He urged district collectors and their teams to finalize the electronic roll printing promptly and maintain readiness for the second phase.

Chokkalingam also stressed the need to address voter objections promptly and accurately inform citizens about the process. Digital platforms should be utilized for serving notices related to objections, and proper hearings should follow. Officials are instructed to respond swiftly to voters' queries to avoid misinformation. Chokkalingam highlighted the significance of public awareness through media and urged cooperation from all sectors of society.

He directed officials to meet with political and public representatives and conduct training programs for effective implementation. After the draft electoral roll publication, extensive awareness campaigns should be carried out on the status of deceased, migrated, duplicate voters, and the entire SIR process. Citizens must be well-informed about the objection filing procedure and the subsequent hearing process.

Divisional Commissioner Dr Pravin Gedam directed all districts to organize awareness programmes at district and taluka levels to provide comprehensive information on the SIR process.
