N. Korea completes new railway station at Wonsan-Kalma resort

Seoul, August 28, 2025 - North Korea has completed construction of a new railway station at the Wonsan-Kalma tourist resort, according to state media. The station, named Myongsasimni Station, was officially revealed in a ceremony the day prior, attended by high-ranking officials including Vice Premier Pak Hun. The 7,000-square-meter station is hailed as a benchmark for local railway stations, designed specifically for tourist travel.

The resort, one of President Kim Jong-un's signature development projects, opened in June 2025 and has a capacity to accommodate up to 20,000 visitors at once. During a visit to the resort in June, Kim Jong-un announced plans to modernize railway stations across provincial cities, citing the project as a model. North Korea has intensified efforts to attract tourists to the resort, operating domestic flights from Pyongyang to the resort twice a week since July 23 using Air Koryo's An-148 aircraft.

State media have reported that tens of thousands of visitors have already flocked to the Wonsan-Kalma coastal area this summer, drawn by the resort's Korean-style tourist offerings.
