Meghalaya: Assam Police Car Burnt Near Camp, Shree Cement Vehicle Attacked With Petrol Bomb

Guwahati, Meghalaya Police are currently investigating two separate incidents of vehicle destruction in West Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills. One incident involved a car set on fire near an Assam Police camp, while the other was a petrol bomb attack on a vehicle carrying Shree Cement Ltd employees. The latest incident occurred early Wednesday in Mawsikar village of West Khasi Hills, when the Langpih Border Outpost was alerted by the village headman about a burnt-out vehicle around 7 am.

The Assam Police's Langpih Boarder Outpost Superintendent, H. Kharkongor, confirmed that officers promptly arrived at the scene and questioned local officials. The victimized vehicle, a Hyundai i10 with registration number AS 01 DH 7347, belonged to an Assam Police officer stationed at the nearby Mawsikar Assam camp. The car had been parked along the roadside a few meters from the post when it allegedly caught fire at approximately 4:00 AM on August 26.

No incendiary materials were found at the scene, leading to the initiation of an investigation by Assam Police but no formal FIR has been filed yet. In a separate incident, East Jaintia Hills saw an attack on a corporate vehicle the previous day. Five to six masked assailants intercepted and attacked a Mahindra Bolero pickup between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM near Lad Jarain in Sutnga Elaka.

The vehicle, owned by Shree Cement Ltd and hired by three company staff members and a driver en route to Khliehriat, was hit by a petrol bomb. All four occupants escaped unharmed before the vehicle subsequently caught fire. Police have registered a case and are actively searching for the unidentified attackers.
