Maryam Nawaz invited to address global sustainability summit in Hong Kong

The Nobel Sustainability Trust, a foundation established by members of the Nobel family and based in Switzerland, has extended an invitation to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to attend their 2026 Sustainability Summit and Awards Ceremony in Hong Kong. The summit, scheduled for November 30 at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, will also feature awards presentations.

According to a statement from the Punjab chief minister's office, the trust commended Punjab's various environmental efforts, including climate resilience, forestry, wildlife preservation, air quality management, and technology-driven environmental governance. The trust particularly noted Punjab's adoption of real-time monitoring, digital platforms, and data-driven systems to tackle environmental issues.

These technologies have been instrumental in identifying pollution sources, assessing environmental risks, and enhancing coordination among departments to combat smog.

The trust also highlighted the use of advanced equipment and digital systems for air quality management, as well as remote monitoring technology aimed at preventing illegal deforestation and poaching. Satellite technology and other modern tools are being utilized to support wildlife conservation, breeding, and protection of endangered species.

Punjab's initiatives, as described by the trust, could serve as models for other regions grappling with similar environmental challenges, especially concerning smog, air pollution, and environmental monitoring. The Nobel Sustainability Trust, founded in 2007 by Nobel family members, is dedicated to promoting sustainable development, environmental enhancement, and efforts to reduce pollution and improve quality of life.

The invitation to Maryam Nawaz Sharif underscores the trust's confidence in Punjab's progress towards technology-based governance, positioning it as an exemplary case for global emulation.
