MACC gets seven-day remand for former Tabung Haji chairman, ex-Treasury sec-gen

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — Former Tabung Haji chairman and a former Treasury secretary-general have been detained for seven days by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as part of ongoing corruption investigations into the pilgrimage fund. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) also extended a four-day detention for a former TH chief executive officer who had previously been detained for seven days.

The three suspects were brought to the Putrajaya Court Complex at 9.30am on Wednesday under heavy security. Both the former TH chairman and the former finance ministry secretary-general, both in their 60s, were apprehended at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya around 4pm on Wednesday. MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman announced that the case is under investigation under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which pertains to the use of one's position to solicit gratification.

These arrests are part of the MACC's intensified crackdown following the release of the declassified Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on TH's management, operations, and assets between 2014 and 2020.
