(LEAD) Lee vows concentrated investment in regions for region-led growth

President Lee Jae Myung pledged substantial investments in regional infrastructure, such as transportation and cultural facilities, during a luncheon at the presidential office on Thursday. He emphasized the need for balanced territorial development and region-led growth to address South Korea's challenges. Overpopulation in the Seoul area and depopulation in other regions were cited as major crises that could threaten the nation's future.

Lee stressed that resolving these issues and fostering a nationwide growth era was essential for the country's prosperity. The government aims to expand regional governments' authority and financial resources, enabling them to plan and grow based on their unique characteristics. This commitment followed a previous meeting with major city mayors and provincial governors, where Lee reiterated the significance of balanced development for South Korea's growth and survival.
