Kyiv Oblast reports air pollution spike following Russian overnight missile strikes - video

Kyiv Oblast has reported a significant spike in air pollution in the wake of Russian missile strikes overnight on August 27. The Military Administration of Kyiv Oblast noted that environmental monitoring detected higher-than-normal levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide and fine particulate matter, primarily due to fires ignited by the strikes in Boryspil.

Similar pollution was observed in several other municipalities including Ivankiv, Bila Tserkva, Vasylkiv, Obukhiv, and Brovary. The drop in air quality could cause discomfort, particularly for the elderly, children, and individuals with respiratory sensitivities. Public health experts recommend that residents use home air purifiers at maximum capacity if available, as concentrations of hazardous substances remained within safety thresholds in other parts of Kyiv Oblast.

Currently, emergency rescue crews are operating in nine fire locations in the Boryspil district, primarily private homes, commercial warehouses, and wildfire hotspots. Russian forces struck Ukraine with two Oniks anti-ship missiles launched from Crimea and Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from the Bryansk and Kursk oblasts. The offensive continued into the daytime with unmanned aerial vehicles, with explosions reported in Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih, and Odesa, as well as across Zaporizhzhya and Poltava regions.

In Odesa, Russian forces terrorized the city throughout the night and morning, damaging infrastructure, an educational institution, and a multi-story residential building.
