Krabi’s ancient man statue joins cheers for Nene Royal

On 26 August 2026, Krabi's iconic "ancient man" statue at a central traffic intersection received an unexpected makeover, adorned with a guitar, headscarf, and Thai national flag. The symbolic gesture aimed to show support for talented 16-year-old Thai singer and guitarist, Nene Royal, as she competes on the global stage of America's Got Talent 2026.

Praew Rattikarn Amlory, Nene Royal's real name, hails from Phuket and has garnered attention for her powerful vocals and impressive guitar rendition of "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden, which earned her a Golden Buzzer from judge Mel B, advancing her directly to the Live Shows.

Krabi residents have creatively demonstrated their backing for Nene Royal by merging the city's well-known "ancient man" statues with musical elements, creating what is now known as the "ancient man with a guitar." This initiative, spearheaded by Keeratisak Phukaoluan, president of the Krabi Provincial Education Council, sought to convey the locals' enthusiasm and encouragement for the young Thai performer as she strives for success on the international platform.

The transformation of the statue materialized within three days at the Nai Sriphong–Nang Kee Phukaoluan Foundation, backed by a coalition of individuals and organizations, including furniture craftsman Phamorn Thinnongjik, Chanate Anno, Jirapoj Chukliang, Krabi Municipality electric lift truck team, Pompet Sukonkanit (Ko Juk), and Krabi Deputy Mayor Adisak Hirun.

The enthusiastic response from Nene Royal's supporters, both within Thailand and beyond, underscores the impact of her performances and the spirit of camaraderie among fans. Winai Rachsaeng, a local counter staff member, emphasized the significance of the project, stating that it not only adds vibrancy to Krabi but also aligns with the widespread support for Nene Royal.
