Katiba Day: Oburu invokes Raila’s legacy, calls for economic liberation

Kenya is commemorating 16 years since the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Oburu Oginga invoking the memory of his late brother and former party leader, Raila Odinga. In a recent statement on X, Oburu highlighted the need for a new movement centered on economic liberation, emphasizing that a constitution on paper alone cannot address pressing issues like unemployment, poverty, inadequate healthcare, and poor education.

He recalled how Raila championed devolution, human rights, and people's sovereignty, but stressed that political freedoms are insufficient when millions of Kenyans continue to struggle economically. Oburu termed economic liberation and the protection of citizens' rights as the "Third Struggle," urging the younger generation to join the fight for better livelihoods.

He defended the ODM's partnership with the UDA-Kenya Kwanza administration, aiming for national stability, while defending the party's commitment to democratic means of seizing power. Ahead of the 2027 General Elections, Oburu cautioned against political violence, urging the police to investigate incidents related to intimidation and goonism, stating that ODM does not endorse such actions.
