Karachi Sees Lowest Monsoon Rainfall in Nearly 29 Years

Karachi has experienced an unusually dry monsoon season this year, a weather pattern not seen since 1997, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The lack of rainfall in Karachi is attributed to the presence of active El Niño conditions over the Arabian Sea, which has prevented any rain-producing weather systems from affecting the city during the remainder of August.

The PMD attributes the absence of rainfall to the lack of low-pressure systems over the Arabian Sea, which typically bring rain to the city. The general monsoon season in Karachi is expected to continue from July 15 to September 15, while the northern areas of Pakistan may see monsoon systems persist until September 30.
