Jigawa @ 35: Gov Namadi salutes founding fathers, past leaders

Jigawa State Government has honored the founding fathers, past leaders, traditional rulers, civil servants, and citizens who have contributed to the state's growth over the past 35 years. This tribute was given by Governor Umar A. Namadi in a special anniversary message marking the 35th anniversary of Jigawa State's creation. The state was formed on August 27, 1991, as a result of the Federal Military Government's restructuring plan, which aimed to bring governance closer to the people and promote balanced development. Jigawa was carved out of the former Kano State, with Dutse designated as its capital.

Governor Namadi described the anniversary as a historic moment of thanksgiving, remembrance, reflection, and renewed commitment to the state's development. He honored the visionary contributions of military administrators and civilian governors who have led the state since its inception. These include Major-General Mueen Olayinka Sule, the first Military Administrator; Alhaji Ali Sa'ad Birnin-Kudu, the first elected civilian governor; and others such as Brigadier General Ibrahim Aliyu, Colonel Rasheed Alade Shekoni, and Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Sadi Zakariya Maimalari.

Additionally, Namadi acknowledged the contributions of legislative, judicial, and civil service officials, as well as traditional institutions and community leaders who have played significant roles in preserving cultural heritage, maintaining peace, and serving as intermediaries between the government and the people. He also commended the collective efforts of various groups, including farmers, traders, educators, healthcare workers, artisans, entrepreneurs, security personnel, religious leaders, and public officers.

Namadi emphasized that the people of Jigawa have demonstrated resilience, discipline, unity, and a commitment to the state's progress. He urged residents to honor the ideals of peace, justice, accountability, opportunity, and responsible leadership, and to continue protecting peace, strengthening justice, expanding opportunities, caring for vulnerable citizens, and investing in the younger generation.

The governor called for the development of strong institutions that can outlast successive administrations. He described the 35th anniversary as an occasion to honor the past, serve the present, and prepare for the future, while reiterating his administration's dedication to advancing a greater Jigawa through a development agenda focused on sustainable development, socioeconomic wellbeing, peace, and prosperity for all residents.
